Chapter 1 General Provisions

Section VI Ampacity

Article 16

The ampacity of low-voltage insulated conductors, single-core and multi-core insulated cables shall meet the following requirements:

1. The permissible temperature of wire insulation is specified in Table 16-1.

2. For metal conduit wiring, the ampere capacity shall be selected according to the provisions in Table 16-3, Table 16-4 and Table 16-6. The ampacity of metal flexible conduit wiring is also the same.

3. The ampere capacity of PVC pipe wiring shall be selected according to the regulations in Table 16-7. The ampacity of HDPE pipe wiring and non-metallic flexible conduit wiring is also the same.

4. For insulated cables with more than 10 current-carrying wires or more than 10 cores of current-carrying wires installed in the same conduit, the ampacity shall be multiplied by the correction factor in Table 16-8.

5. Insulated wires do not include neutral wires, ground wires, control wires and signal wires. However, if there is harmonic current in the neutral wire of single-phase three-wire or three-phase four-wire circuit, it should be regarded as a current-carrying wire and included.

6. If the insulated wire is installed in a place where the ambient temperature is higher than 35°C, its ampacity should be multiplied by the correction factor listed in Table 16-9.
